Beth Verheyden “Discovery” Workshop (oils and acrylics)
Paints
- Bring your favorites and a few colors you’d like to experiment with. I paint with a limited watercolor palette using mostly primary colors. The primary colors I choose for each painting may differ depending on the effect I want. I’ll be demonstrating using mostly watercolor, with some gouache, charcoal and pencil
Brushes
- Bring the brushes you normally use
Substrates
Canvas, Cradle Boards or Boards
- Four small (8x10 or 11x14), and two 14x18 or larger pieces
If you’re a prolific painter, bring extra
Miscellaneous
- Copic Sketch Markers in Neutral Gray. N1, N3, N5, N10
- Reference Photos. Bring at least ten black & white photos of subjects you like and would like to paint
o We won’t be painting all 10 subjects, but you will need them for a specific exercise
o During our study on Composition and Perspective, we’ll be looking at different angles and perspectives of the same subject matter. If you have additional photos of your favorite 10 images which show the subject from a different angle, bring those
o If you prefer to work from memory or sketches, bring at least 10 ideas or sketches
o To save time, you may bring 2-3 subjects already drawn onto your canvas or cradle board. However, our studies may change your thoughts on composition and perspective. During the workshop you will be asked to search writings for meaningful words. Bring your personal favorites of a few of the following options (no need to bring all of them):
o 1-2 Books that are written using words or phrases that are compelling or meaningful to you
o Poetry, Prose or Creative Writings
o Blog Posts
o Personal Journal (of your own writings or someone you know)
o Any other writings
